Delaware Prisoner Phone Boyucott
September 6, 2015 - September 13, 2015FREE
Press Release – Delaware Prison Phone Boycott – September 6 to 13, 2015
Because phone companies which contract with prisons to control the inmates’ phone calls charge obscenely high rates, and because inmates’ friends and families can least afford the outrageously high charges, Citizens for Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP), Link of Love, NAACP (Wilmington Chapter) The Partnership for Reentry, with many others, are calling now for a planned statewide phone boycott by all prisoners in Delaware D O C.
Notify your friends or family members in prison, in state and federal prisons, to refrain from making any phone calls (unless absolutely necessary) during the week of September 6 through September 13, 2015. Such a boycott will spark reform and cause changes in the unconscionably high fees charged to inmates for virtually all products and services.
Commissioner Coupe acknowledges that this in an area they need to closely monitor to ensure that the fees for services are fair and justified. The Commissioner continues to work to improve the commissary operation and will manage the commissary as a DOC responsibility instead of contracting it out to a third party. He is assessing the offender phone services to determine if there are cost saving measures that could be leveraged
.After consulting with Prison Legal News, we determined that with CCJ’s limited resources a nationwide Boycott is not feasible. But a statewide Boycott in our little state is quite doable, and it might get other states to follow us.
We hope that success with this Boycott will lead to reduced costs to inmates and their families of many prison services. Plan now; spread the word!
