CCJ CHRISTMAS PARTY – EMILY’S Bicycle
IT’S NOT TOO SOON TO MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR DECEMBER 19th!
Won’t you please help some unfortunate kids at Christmas?
On Christmas day last year, on my way home on my bike, I met little 9 year old Emily on Washington Street, riding the most adorable little girl’s bicycle you have ever seen! She was, of course, aglow with the pride and excitement of her new bike. That’s when it hit me! We must provide such joy for kids whose lives have been turned upside down through no fault of their own.* Might YOU please provide an “Emily” (in this case, the child of a parent in reentry) with the bike of her dreams, a Superwoman or Dora the Explorer helmet to go with it, or some other gift? A pair of mittens or a coat would be great, too! Or a gift card, so the child can choose!
The main feature of the party, besides the delicious food and the fellowship provided by attendees, will be Christmas gifts for such kids. Santa will be there, of course! (Delaware’s best Santa, my friend Bill Holmes, who was Santa for the city and others for years!). We are giving them much more than bikes and toys – we are giving them the realization that there are people who care, whether Mom or Dad succeeds with the challenges of reentry*. Of course, you don’t have to buy anything — all are welcomed. It’s a “bring a dish” dinner”.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR:
The Citizens For Criminal Justice First Annual Christmas Party will be in the Activity Room at Luther Towers, 430 Kings Hwy. Bldg. 1, from 6 to 8 PM on Friday night, December 19, 2014.
Sometimes some people forget that THIS is what Christmas is about.
*Studies show that having a parent in prison is more upsetting to kids than divorce or loss of a parent!
*I shall never forget what she said when the leader of one of America’s most successful reentry program said when asked what accounts for her phenomenal success:
“For many of these people, just knowing that someone cares makes an enormous difference.”
If you know potential providers, or if you talk to the MANAGER at Sam’s, Wal Mart…, Target, Burger King, McDonald’s, Chick Filet, or any other source, please explain that we need gift certificates and/or an assortment of toys/clothes (for ages 1 to 15) for about 25 children for our Christmas party. THE SOONER THE BETTER! You can tell them it is for our nonprofit corporation, Citizens for Criminal JUSTICE, to help children of the disadvantaged, and our EIN number is 463639486, and they can call our VP, Mary, with any questions. Donations can be sent to: Ken Abraham, 430 Kings Highway (Luther Towers), Suite 414, Dover, DE 19901. . Any questions, please contact Mary Trice, our VP who is helping me with this, at 302- 677-5420 or 302-270-6589 or email@example.com or Ken Abraham at 302-423-4067 or Kenabraham3138@gmail.com. THANKS. I hope to see you on December 19th!
